Latisse™ – Making Your Dream of Longer Eyelashes Come True!
Are your eyelashes thinning? Do you wish they were longer and fuller, and mascara isn’t doing the trick? Latisse™ can help you achieve the lush, dark, and dramatic eyelashes you’ve always wanted. Now available at Valley Vision Center in Spokane Valley.
What is Latisse™?
This FDA-approved drug, made from a prostaglandin analog (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution, 0.03%), is a prescription medicine that can be used to encourage the growth of darker, thicker, and longer eyelashes. Using the sterile applicator, you simply wipe this serum across the lash line of your freshly washed upper eyelids. Eye care experts warn against using Latisse™ on your lower eyelids, because too many lashes can grow, leading to an unnatural appearance.
Presently, Latisse™ is the exclusive eyelash growth serum to receive FDA approval. As to why it works, doctors aren’t exactly sure – but science suggests Latisse™ stimulates hair cells to enter a growth cycle instead of hibernating.
How long does it take for Latisse™ to work?
You may see new eyelashes popping out as early as one month after you begin using Latisse™. However, to experience the full effects, you need to apply the serum daily for a minimum of two months. Also, your enhanced eyelashes will only last as long as you continue to use the medication. If you stop applying Latisse™, the time it took for your eyelashes to grow into a beautiful, full fringe is about how long it will take to see them return to their original appearance.
Who can use Latisse™?
Latisse™ is only approved for use by people over age 18; it is also not advised for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Contact lenses wearers can safely use Latisse™, but contacts must be removed before applying the serum – and a 15-minute wait is required before inserting contacts back into your eyes.
Are there any side effects?
As with every drug, there are several possible side effects. The most common side effects of Latisse™ include:
- Redness of your conjunctiva (thin tissue covering the white of your eye)
- Itchy eyes
- Dry eyes
- Darkening of the eyelids (usually fades after stopping use)
- Darkening of the iris (may be permanent)
- Hair growth around the eyes (if the serum regularly runs or drips on surrounding skin)
If you develop any undesirable side effects, have a sudden reduction in your vision, or develop any type of eye reactions, contact Dr. Justin Burgerson immediately.
